Our practical tips for a successful day in Copenhagen
Getting around Copenhagen: by foot, bike or metro?
🥾 The good news is that Copenhagen is perfectly discoverable on foot. The city is flat and compact, and the main sights are all within easy walking distance of each other. In one day, there’s no need for public transport if you follow our itinerary.
🚲 Cycling option: But if you’re in a hurry or want to go faster between two spots, the cycling is the ideal alternative. There are trails everywhere, and apps like Donkey Republic make it easy to rent a bike, even for a few hours.
Last but not least, the ultra-modern, fully-automated metro (line M2, 15 min from Kastrup) can help you get to the center of town fromCopenhagen airport.

Where to eat fast and well?
In Copenhagen, restaurant prices can rise quickly, so opting for a meal on the go – in the halls, on food trucks or in smørrebrød takeaway mode – is often the most economical solution… and just as tasty. 😋
- For a quick but local lunch, Torvehallerne is our favorite spot: Nordic food court atmosphere with lots of cool stalls.
- If you feel like taking a break, try a smørrebrød restaurant. Among the best: Aamanns 1921, or the simpler but good Hallernes Smørrebrød in the Halles.
- At the end of the day, Tivoli offers a range of restaurants (from simple burgers to more chic eateries). Alternatively, you can leave the park and eat in the nearby Vesterbro district.

Where can you book your tickets?
There are two simple options for avoiding queues and organising your day without stress:
- Directly on the official website of each activity
- Or via Get Your Guide, a handy official reseller
We often recommend Get Your Guide because cancellation conditions are flexible: you can be reimbursed up to 24 hours before the activity. Prices are the same as on museum or attraction sites, but with the advantage of peace of mind and having everything in one place. Convenient, especially for an express getaway like this!

Copenhagen Card
If you want to do all these things: save money with the Copenhagen Card (Copenhagen’s super city pass).
Low-budget bonus: consider the Copenhagen Card
If you’re planning to visit several sites, the Copenhagen Card is a great deal. It gives you free access to over 80 attractions, including all those mentioned in this itinerary (Tivoli and Christiansborg Castle).
It also includes:
🚆 Unlimited transport in the Copenhagen area (metro, train, bus)
🚤 One canal cruise included
Available in versions from 24 to 120 hours, it quickly pays for itself if you keep visiting. Perfect for those who want to treat themselves without breaking the budget.
🌟 Bonus for families: each adult card entitles the holder to take up to 2 children (aged 3 to 11) free of charge. So for a couple with 2 children: 2 adult cards = the whole family can use the attractions for free. That’s quite a saving!

💡 Our little tips
- Bring a small jacket, even in summer: the wind can be surprising, especially near the canals.
- Copenhagen is a cashless city: you can pay for anything with a card, even a bottle of water or a cup of coffee. ☕️💳
- If you have an evening to spare, explore Reffen (giant food court by the sea) or try out a cocktail bar in the Meatpacking District. 🍸
